Character relation ships
Dill and Francis
In the book "To Kill A Mockingbird" by Harper lee the main protagonists has a lot of friends and family that may be foils to her or they may be alter egos to her but the two characters that I have picked are Dill And Francis.
One way that Francis and Dill are similar is because they both like to talk about what is on thier mind and how they feel instead of anybody else for example Francis called Atticus a "nigger lover" and he did not care what scout thought about it. Dill said that he almost died and was being abused because he wanted everybody to show him potty and keep him. Another reason that Francis and Dill are similar is because they both like to be bad, Dill was smoking in by the pond and Francis is always being provacitive with Scout.
The way that Dill and Francis are different is because Dill try's to take care of his problems on his own like when he just ran away and did not tell anybody. What Francis does is he just goes and tells a lie or snitches like he did when him and scout got into a fight. Another reason that these two characters are different is because Francis is really spoiled and is a mamas boy and that is who he always runs to when he has a problem and Dill is kind of a loner when it comes to being attached to anybody like a mother or father.
The kind of relationship that Dill shares with Scout is a love and friend relation ship because they are dating and dill says that he wants to marry scout when he grows up and Scout said yes. The relation ship that Scout and Francis have is pretty much a pure hate relation ship because all that they do is fight each other and scout actually punched Francis and they just do not get a long at all.
The effect that Francis has on scout is provocative because whenever she is around him they fight and scout just always thinks of what Francis had said about her father Atticus earlier in the book.
The affect that Dill has on Scout is kind of like her conscience because he gives her a lot of good advice that can help her, for example when they were at the trial Dill asked Scout if she wanted to leave because what they were hearing was not fit for a girl.

TKAM blog #1
The way that the photo of an old house that looks broken down and not well taken care of that is in Eutaw Alabama that I have selected compares to the setting of where the main character or antagonist Scout lives in the book "To Kill A Mockingbird" by Harper Lee is because it reminds me of the old Radley place which is were a crazy man lives and they are just afraid of his old creaky house that lies at the corner of the street that Scout lives on.
The main things that I observed from this picture is that the house is obviously in a very malnourished condition and that is how the Radley place is described in the book, another thing that I noticed about the house in the picture that relates to the Radley place is that it is at the corner of the street which is where the boo Radley house is located in the book, you can tell that the house is at the end of the block is because to the left you can see a man walking on either a dirt or clay road which signifies the end of the block.

Michael Hoover Theme blog
Michael Hoover theme blog
Book: The Hatchet
Author: Gary Paulsen
Spoiler Alert!
I think that the theme of the book "The Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen is that you have to do anything to survive in the wild. The reason that I think that the theme of the book is that you have to do anything to survive in the wild is because when the protagonist Brien is stranded in the woods after the plane that he was in crashed, he was forced to make extremely hard decisions, for example when he got out of the lake that the plane that he was in had crashed in he had to think of weather to run and panic into the forest or be calm and collected and work on getting fire and water.
Another reason that I think that the theme of the book is that you have to do anything to survive in the wild is because Brien found a maggot hole and he had a choice of weather to wait to see if he could catch a bird or animal for meat and take the chance of starving or he could eat the maggots and get the nutrition and be sure to live for a while longer. This shows that you have to do anything to survive in the wild because in normal day life you would not have to make a decision that could make or break weather you live or not.
Another theme in the book "The Hatchet" could be that nothing is more important than family.
I think this because in the book before Brien got on the plane he did not want to go to see his father because his father cheated on his mom and then he got stranded in the middle of know where and then he really realized how important his parents are and how much that they cared about him.

1st quater reflection blog
Michael Hoover
1st quarter reflection blog
The fist quarter is already gone with the second one to come with more learning and achievements. During the first quarter I think that I improved the most in writing, in the fashion of making sentences more readable with the lesson that we did last week about putting the action before the noun and it makes everything sound and flow better together.
Some thing that I think that I need to improve on for second quarter is revising because I usually get grammar mistakes in my blogs because I do not read over them carefully enough and then I don't get as good as a grade for them that I would have if I fixed all of those mistakes. Another thing that I think that I need to work on is studying more for the tests because I usually don't study long enough and don't get the best grade I can get, but I know that I will fix that in second quarter.
In the forty book challenge I am only on my seventh book when I should probably be on my tenth book because of the forty book challenge and then we have four quarters. For next quarter I aim to get to my twentieth book read because I am three books behind where I should be for first quarter. This quarter has shown me a lot because I know that I have to work harder next quarter.

Michael Hoover Blog "The Nazi Hunters"
Book: "The Nazi Hunters"
Author: Neal Bascomb
Prompt: List three questions down that you have about anything in the book and explain your reasoning.
The first question that I have about the book "The Nazi Hunters" written by Neal Bascomb the question that I was wondering is were are the rest of the characters because I am already on page twenty and there has only been one character that has been introduced and his name is Zeeve Sapir. The reason that I was wondering this is because in a lot of the other books that I have read the main characters usually gets introduced in the first five pages. I think that they are kind of explaining what happened to each of them in the span of a few chapters in stead of them meeting and all having their stories at once.
Another question that I was wondering about the book "The Nazi Hunters" was why did Zeeve Sapir not try to run away when he got the chance because he could have, run in the forest to hide or go home. The reason that I asked this question was because he got the chance for sure at least once in the book maybe even more and he did not take that chance. I think that the reason that he did not take the chance was because he was afraid of being caught and killed or tortured, maybe he was just to weak to run because they barley got any food in these concentration camps and the food that they did get were usually old frozen and raw potatoes.
The third and last question that I had about the book was why did they not try to fight against the nazis they knew that they were going to die some time or another so why did they not just fight. The reason that I was thinking about this was because there were more Jews then there were nazis in the concentration camp. I think that maybe one of the reasons that they did not fight back was because they were afraid that everybody else had no courage to fight back because they might feel like God might hate them.

Life lines from mawi
Life Lines from Mawi Michael Hoover Poem
Turn and look at your friends
They are your true family
When you live in exile
You have survived many dangers
Famines,diseases,war homesickness and more
Who knows what your future will bring
For even the worst memories
You have they are still yours
Tewolde never talked to management
He never graduated high school
A drunk driver killed him
People always mistreated Angels
My father said because
They were disguised
This angel did not have much
In fact it looked like
He had absolutely nothing
Know everyone as an angel
Not a beetle

OBAA Connection WIth Aow "U.S Will Accept More Refugees as Crisis Grows"

OBAA
Connections with Aow
The first connection that I found Between the book "Of Beetles And Angels" written by Selamawi Asgedom and in the article "U.S Will Accept More Refugees as Crisis Grows" By Michael R. Gordan was that when Mawis family came to "Amerkia" they got help from a church and were able to stay in a motel room for a little bit till they could find someplace permanent to live and work "World relief had met us at the airport and paid for our motel room." And in the article it states that "They were taken to hotels and motels to stay for the night or longer." That was one of the similarities between the book "Of Beetles And Angels" written by Selamawi Asgedom and in the article "U.S Will Accept More Refugees as Crisis Grows" By Michael R. Gordan.
The second similarity that I found between both the book and the article that we read this week was that both Mawi's family and the people in the article that came was that they both were welcomed and not like treated differently than anybody else in the book "of beetles and angels" it states "It was tow of our people: habesha women. And they came bearing gifts; injera bread and sebhi stew." This show that they were welcomed and that people wanted to help them. In the article it states "I believe, it is in keeping with the best tradition of America as a land of second chances and a beacon of hope." This shows that in the article that the americans welcomed the refugees by saying that they are getting a second chance.
The way that war affects individuals and societies in the book of beetles and angels and also that article is that it can make them scared and want a safer place for their family's to escape from the wars and all of the violence from their home country. In the book it states " We were driven away by the advancing Ethiopian army." This shows that they were afraid of the violence from the army and that they were trying to get away. In the article it states "Resettlement from people who continue to flee turmoil in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and other countries." This also shows why they are leaving their home country's because of all of the war and violence.

Book: The Scorch Trials
Author: James Dashner
Prompt: How have your feelings changed throughout the book? why do you think they changed
Prompt #2:What was the best part of the book and why?
My feeling in the beginning of the book were excited mostly for the reason that I knew that big things in the series were going to happen and also they were finally out of the maze. Then by the middle and end of the book I got kind of board and not wanting to read it anymore. I think that I felt this way because the same thing kept happening over and over again, all that was really happening was that they were running through the desert getting chased by cranks and getting struck by lightning a lot.
Another reason that I think that I got board and tired of the book by the end was because all of the guys kept getting trapped by the girls that were hiding in the trees even though there was only a little patch of trees which did not make a lot of sense so it was like you already knew that they were about to get ambushed.
I believe that the best part of the book The Scorch Trials was when Theresa tricked Thomas into following he into the cave because he thought that she was good and then the other boy was there and Thomas was thrown into a gas chamber to die. This was my favorite part of the book because it was a huge curveball that I am pretty sure that nobody noticed.

Book: Scorch Trials

Prompt: What is the main characters objective in the book? And why is this?
Prompt #2: Where does this book take place? Why do you think they chose this?
The main character Thomas's objective in the book The Scorch Trails is to get across the scorch,
the scorch is like a dessert but before it was a dessert it was a city that had been burned down by heat and radiation from the sun and know there are wild creatures that used to be humans but got infected and are now cranks cranks are creatures and they are hungry for flesh. So that's what will make it really hard for Thomas to get across.
I think that this is the main characters goal in the book because he just wants to be free and away from wicked the creators of the virus and every thing that has happened to the world. Another reason that I think that this is the main objective is because Thomas wants to save Theresa because they have a bond mentally because they can talk to each other through their heads and he just wants it all to be over.
The place that the book The Scorch Trials takes place is in the hot desert. The reason that I think that they did this is because there is more room to make things happen like really big fights and then the characters wont get separated like they would have if they were in as jungle or a forest environment. Another reason I think they made the book happen in mostly a desert environment is because you are most likely to die there and they could kill some characters off that they did not want.

Book: The Hatchet
Author: Gary Paulsen
Prompt: What is the most important lesson in this book, and Why was this important?
Prompt #2: If you could trade places with the character would you, and why?
SPOILERS
One of the most important things that the book The Hatchet can teach some one after reading it is that keep trying. I think this because when Brian the main character gets stranded out in the middle of no were he tries to make fire and even though he cant make it the first time he keeps trying for a really long time and he finally was able to make it. This was really important for him because the fire that he made kept him alive and if he had not wanted to keep trying he probably would have died.
Another really important lesion that you can learn from the book the hatchet is that you should never give up hope, for instance after Brian crashed he did not get sad and depressed and thinking that help would never come. He just kept thinking that someone would find him and save him from the woods someday, and he never let go of hope he did luckily get rescued. This is important because then he would have been miserable and not wanting to go on any more.
If I could trade places with the main character I don't think that I would. I would not trade places with the main character because I don't think that I would be able to handle being all alone and not being able to talk to anybody. Another reason I would not trade spots with the main character is because I don't know what birds to hunt or how to clean them to eat.

Book: The hatchet
Author: Gary Paulsen
Prompt: If you Could ask the protagonist any question what would you ask him and why? What was the biggest challenge in your opinion that the Protagonist had to face, and why do you think this is his biggest challenge?
If I could ask the protagonist Brian any question I would ask him why he never searched the interior of the plane that had crashed when he got out of it and not just at the end of summer? The reason that I would ask him this would be because at the beginning of the summer when the plane crashed, he got out of the wreckage and he waited until the end of the summer when the rescue plane came. I thought that it was silly that he forgot about it for such a long time because it would have been really useful for him mostly for the fact that it had a gun and a lot of food to last him for at least a month.
The biggest challenge that I think that the main character Brien had to face was the acceptance that he was stuck and that he would probably not see any body again? This would be bad because he would have probably gotten depressed if he was not working so hard to build a shelter to make a fire. The reason that I thought that this was his biggest challenge was because it would be really scary to be all alone in the dark forest not knowing if you are going to live or not.
Another hard challenge that I think that he faced was making a fire. I think this because all he had was a hatchet and a rock and when you hit the hatchet at the rock you need to be really close to the tinder bundle or else the spark wont last long at all. Another reason that I think that this was one of the hardest challenges for him was because of the lack of energy in his body from running around and waiting after the plane crashed for so long without any food or water to replenish him because he was probably really tired.

The first conflict that I thought was big was Curley's wife, I think this because wherever she goes Curley thinks that she is doing something and she is always starting trouble with other people for example she said to crooks that she could have him killed so easily "Shut it nigger, you know I can have you hung so easily that it aint even funny!" this shows that she is causing trouble a lot to the other people. The conflict that this has had on the plot is that it makes Curley out to get everyone because he thinks that she wants every person that she talks to.

I thought this because since he likes it so much he touched Curley's wife's hair and then he would not let go when she started screaming and he held her mouth because he said that he would not be able to tend to the rabbits if George found out so he accidentally killed her. That is why I think that a big conflict in the story was lennies addiction to touch soft things because it gets him in so much trouble.
9 Questions That Really Make You Think Blog
Michael Hoover
In Mrs.Larsons class this year the three most important things that I have learned are, Learning to pay attention better to the directions in her class. The second thing that I have learned in this class this year is to analyzing my reading and not trying to go fast and finish the book first. And the third thing that I have learned this year in this class is to write better and be more organized.
Something that happened this year that I think I will remember for the rest of my life is reading of mice and men mostly because that was a really good book when you read it slowly. Also because it had an ending that was realistic and the book taught me a really good lesson. Another thing that happened this year that I think I will remember for the rest of my life was when Sebastian ripped his pants because it was funny.
The nicest thing that somebody did for me this year was that they let me borrow a pencil there was probably something better than that that I cant remember but that is something that I remember the most and that was the nicest thing that they did for me I think that it was Siri.
One thing that I think that I taught the teacher and my classmates this year is that my favorite lesson is poetry because it is fun and creative and mostly because anybody can do it even if they try a little bit.
The area that I feel I made the most improvement in was being neat I think that this was my biggest improvement because before I came into this class my computer desktop screen was a mess and was littered with documents every were and now it is clean and neat and every thing is organized in folders, well almost everything. I feel like my biggest accomplishment this year was reading 30 books and even though I did not reach the 40 book goal I still feel proud that I made it through 30 that is why I think that is my biggest accomplishment this year is reading 30 books.
The most challenging part about this year for me is I think would be turning in all of my homework on time because I was really bad on that in third quarter mostly. I think that this would be the most challenging part of the year for me because it was something that happened a couple of times.
The best piece of writing that I think I did this year was the nonsense poem, this is the best piece of writing that I did because I took a lot of time on it and made sure that the words were good nonsense words and not easy to make out ones and also because it was in my opinion the most fun assignment that we had done.
Of the books that I have read this year the one that I would choose as my favorite would be the Maze Runner Series. I chose this because the maze runner series was a really great series and there was so much suspense and the plot line and how everything in the story fit so well together. Well except for the last one because it was so rushed and was medicare.
One piece of advice that I would give to the kids next year that are in this class are to remember to do your homework and have a clean computer and folder because that helps a lot with getting your work out fast. One other piece of advice is never to rip your pants on one of the chairs.

Michael Hoover "paradox and Dream" Reflection
Paradox: "By natural endowment, we are great rifle shots and hunters- but when hunting season opens there is a slaughter of farm animals and humans by men and women who couldn't hit a real target if they could see it."
This paradox shows that even though we are good at shooting guns and various weapons that we say that we are good at some thing when really we aren't as good as we say that we are but in reality we aren't that good in shooting and we could not shoot a target if it was right in front of us.
The connection that I feel that I have with this paradox is that even though I can shoot a gun we still do not hunt but instead we just go to the market and buy meat that was slaughtered on a farm when we can be getting fresh meat. Another reason I can relate to this paradox is because we used to have farm animals and we would just sell them off to some people and then they would slaughter them even though they knew how to shoot and hunt.
Paradox 2: "Our lives as we live them would not function without electricity, but it is rare that a man or women who, when the power goes off, knows how to look for a burned out fuse and replace it."
This paradox shows to me that even though that a lot of us are self reliant on electricity we would not be able to function without it, and also that it is really rare to find a man or a women that knows how to fix a fried circuit or burned out fuse to replace it.
I can relate to this because even though I am really self reliant on electricity to do stuff for me. That if the power goes out I would not know how to fix it even though I use it all of the time. One time I was home alone and the power in the apartment went off and I did not know how to fix. So what I did was I went to my moms room were the generator was and I went and looked at it to see if I could do anything. I had no idea what to do so I had to sit in the the room and read and you know how much you rely on technology.

Michael Hoover Symbol Blog
The reason that I chose this symbol was because it means peace and appreciation and I may not show it but I am pretty peaceful when I'm alone and I know that a lot of people think that this symbol stands for killing and getting rid of the jews because of hitler but that one is at an angle and not straight up like it was when it was used by the Buddhist monks . I also think that this symbol represents me because I like to appreciate things like the out doors.
The reason that I made this symbol in the color of red is because red
shows love and compassion and I think that that kind of describes me because if I see someone that needs help I will help them the best that I can and I do have care in my heart and that is the reason that I chose for the this symbol to be bright red.

OMAM Book And Movie
Movie or Book
Author: John Steinbeck
The way that the director showed the incident in weed in a different way was that you could see the girl screaming and running through the field from being scared of Lennie which is different because in the book George is just talking about how "Dam stupid..." Lennie was because he did that even though it was not his fault but it was a memory that they were having not a whole scene. I think that the reason the director did this was because he wanted to show that something was wrong and also so that he could add the scene of George and Slim talking and the people would understand what was going on better than if George and Lennie had talked about it in the beginning of the book. One major way that this changes the story is because it shows why George and Lennie moved away from Weed and also shows how Lennie likes to touch soft things.
I think that in the beginning scene when George was on the train, I think that the director did this because it shows how George and Lennie are moving away to get somewhere else. I think that one thing this shows us about Georges life is that he is a farmer that moves around for work a lot because of the dust bowl so every one was looking for a person to work for and it that was what it was like back then.
I kind of think that he made a bad choice with her because she looks way different from the book in the movie I thought that she would look really informal and chewing with her mouth open. She does not look the way that I thought she would look like in the book with ugly hair and a huge nose because it kind of does not describe her in the book and I did not thing that she would look that nice but I guess that they changed it up a bit. The person that I would have chosen would be nanny mcphee, I would choose her because that is the person that I thought of when the book introduced Curley's wife.
The first scene where Lennie and Curley's wife meet that do not happen or happen differently in the book is the scene in which Lennie is working in the field and then she appears and starts talking to him and then he says that George will give him hell if he talks to her because George does not want Lennie to get in any trouble. Another scene that is different in the book to the movie is when George is in the barn and she comes in and starts talking to him but in the book she is in the barn before he comes in. I think that the director did this to show that she has a wandering eye and is usually looking at the guys but that she is kind of more attracted to Lennie.
The flash back at the end of the movie shows George and Lennie throwing barley into the back of a wagon and then after they do this they start to walk the opposite way of the wagon into the bright and perfect field. I think that the flash back at the end of the movie leaves the audience thinking and it shows them that George shot Lennie not because he was mad but because it was out of love and compassion for Lennie.
The line of dialogue that ends the book Of Mice And Men is "now what the hell ya suppose is eatin' them two guys?" One big thing that I think that line tells us about that person that said it is that they are kind of suspicious because they looked so sad and depressed and that person is kind of baffled about why they just killed what they thought was a killer and then the person who killed him is all sad and why would that be. I think that the main feeling that is left with the reader is like wonder mostly because they would wonder what would happen next and if George keeps working on that ranch. What I felt when he said that was kind of anger mostly because it's like you don't ask that question, is it not obvious he literally just killed the person he loved the most in the world.
Some of my general thoughts or feeling on the book "Of Mice And Men" is that this is a real book and it has an actual real ending not something that people want it to be but what it really would be. Another general thought that I had was that it was that I felt a little sympathy for Lennie and also for George because they both had it really rough and they both had to make really hard choices and decisions. The biggest impact that this book had on me is that I really learned that I think that mercy killing is justified because before we read this book I thought that killing was not right no matter what and I still think that killing is not right in any form I just like to think of it as releasing that person from being hurt really bad. I would recommend this book to my neighbors mom because she is a good reader and likes books like this and also because everybody else that I know has already read this book.

Aow Impressions Blog
Aow Impressions blog reflection
Michael Hoover
This week I learned a lot from the articles that my piers chose to talk about for the Aow gallery walk. The thing that was chosen the most common was the Baltimore riot's usually about the "Baltimore Riot Mother." Another thing that got picked a couple of times was the Nepal earth quake which affected a lot of people.
One thing that I found Interesting that I learned this week was that mercury had a man made satellite named the messenger that was gathering data about the planet mercury and what happened was as it was orbiting around mercury the messenger ran out of gas to be able to stay in orbit. so what they had to use was helium as extra fuel which gave the messenger an extra week of orbit and then the spacecraft finally ran out of air and plumped at about 1,786 miles per hour to the surface of mercury. It was okay because they gathered all of the information that they wanted or needed to have to make more discoveries about that planet.
Another thing that I found interesting from the articles this week was the cause of the baltimore riots which was a man was arrested for having a knife so they took him in a truck and threw him around and then he died from hitting his head to much. The reason that I found this interesting was because all of the police officers in that truck got charged with murder and they all lost their job because the baltimore riots influenced the decision of the court.

Book: Of Mice and Men
Author: John Steinback
By: Michael Hoover
The atmosphere around the ranch, I think is like favorites. What I mean by favorites is that the boss chooses which worker has more power and if that person gets in trouble they do not get pinched. Another reason that I think that the atmosphere around the bunkhouse is favorites I think this because when Curley walks in he acts really cocky and mean and powerful just because his dad owns the ranch.
I think that the reason that Curley's wife does not have a name is because she is a woman. I think that the reason Curly's wife does not have a name because back then women were not considered important or relevant like any thing they said would be listened to last this was because this was how it was like at that time. So they did not think that she should be called by hear real name.
Another reason that I think Curley's wife does not have a name is because they just got married like is said in the book in chapter two. I think this because sometimes when people get married the women does not know what name to take, the maiden name or the mans last name so she was waiting to choose. Or maybe something happened at the place were they got married and then something happened were it got postponed so she does not have a last name yet.

Book: Brians Return
Author: Gary Paulsen
By: Michael Hoover
Prompt: If you could ask the author any question what would it be and why?
If I could ask the author Gary Paulsen any question it would be, what was the reason that you wrote a whole bunch of books circled around the one protagonist and why? The reason that I would ask him this question the most is because his first book was called "The Hatchet." Then that book did extremely well so why did he brach off of that book with a whole bunch of other short novels (Novellas) in stead of just making a bigger story. I think that he would do this because it would really explain all of it better and have more of a adventurous story because for that the book needs to be a little longer so the action is not just on one page.
Another question that I would ask the author would be what inspired him to write the book "Brian's Return" The reason that I would ask this question is because I think that he might write about the outdoors a lot because maybe he goes camping a lot because that is really what the book is about. Which is Brian the protagonist going camping and making fire and surviving off of animals. Also because there was the other book "The Hatchet" which was really good so maybe that inspired him to write "Brian's Return" because it was fun and enjoyable to write about stuff like that.
Prompt: What is one major challenge that the main character faces in his path?
One major thing that the main character faces is reconnecting with the outdoors. The reason that I think that this is the major challenge that he faces is because when he gets back to the outdoors he keeps trying to remember to hunt but he can't and then he is struggling to kill the animal because he feels like he probably shouldn't even though he remembers that it is the only way for him to stay alive. Another thing is also he is having trouble setting up his camp because he is not taking any precautions any more like digging a trench around the camp site so that he does not get flooded by water.

Poetry Reflection Michael Hoover
Poetry Reflection
Michael Hoover
The effect or importance that poetry has on my life is it is fun to do and when I'm happy I like to do a happy poem that reminds me of Arkansas because that is were I like to be the most and wish I could live there. In my opinion I do think that poetry has an affect or belongs to everybody, the reason that I think this is because I think that poetry can me anything to anyone for example if I were to read a poem and then give it to a friend we might both have different interpretations of it. Each reason
is unique to us so we could each think of a different message that the poem is trying to release or portray.
The life and experiences of a poet affects their writing because of the way they might think about politics or nature or how they were treated as they were a kid. A good example of this is say a poet that is older expresses how he feels about the world and maybe he tries to express that he thinks that the world is really corrupt. This shows that he was probably raised in a family that was always talking about politics and how bad they were. Another great example is say there is a poet that always talks about how beautiful nature is and that there is unlimited things to do in a forrest. Well that is probably because when he was a kid he went camping or traveling with his parents and siblings. That is why I think that the experiences of a poet effects the way that they write their poems.
"Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words" - Robert Frost
Before we started poetry the thought that I had was that this is going to be really strict and boring "theres going to be limits on the thoughts we have" or "were just going to be sitting in class frantically thinking of rhyming with the next line of words" but an important thing that I learned was that there really is not a limit or boundaries with poetry. Another important thing that I learned was that there were different types of poetry and not just what we usually see when we search up poetry or read a Shell Silverstein book. I really enjoyed this experience of being able to learn more about poetry and the way people use it in everyday life.

Spine Poem Michael Hoover
The spine poem "The Hero" is a thinking poem which makes you want to think about it and what it means because it can puritan to a lot of things but it really stands for this. The lost hero stands for a hero that went to fight for freedom. Great expectations stands for everyone is counting on him to win the battle for them. The dead of night stands for the people that are counting on the hero and want him to win but they are in the dark on the news if he had won or lost the battle. First light stands for they find out that they had won the battle against the enemy and they are happy. And peace like a river stands for the people are not scared or nervous that they might lose the battle but now that they know that they won they are finally able to relax.
Found poem Michael Hoover
"Beautiful Nature" This is my found poem and it represents nature and if you can't see what is says it says. "Scented mesmerizing fields another world with a far horizon of stark mountains so clean and stimulating a feeling of beauty that asked for brilliant desert mornings no scrub scrape with clouds along each morning." The reason that I drew the flower and the tree and also the sun is because it represents the beauty of the wilderness and the dessert the blue shows that the nature can be dangerous it is kind of like the yin yang symbol.

Book: Found
Author: Margaret Peterson Haddix
Characters: Jonah (Blue) Jonah's sister (Red) Both (Light Green)
I'm adopted from
an orphanage
You gave much
more performance
We are brother and sister by love
I'm from the
past not the present
We still share
the same parents
But not by any sort of blood
You will never
really comprehend
No I will always
remember to the highest e extent
Remember all the moments of truth
Time travel is to
save the condemned
Jonah you just have to
act or at least pretend
We both act like nothing happened
I was kidnapped
and thrown in the future
just remember you went through it
like a trooper
It was all just so much to take in
I want to know
who I really am
you are Jonah my big
brother that I love
We will both stand together as one
There is a lot of things
that I don't know about myself

We will stick together to the end

3rd Quarter reflection's
Of the books that I have read this far during the quarter would be "Ghost Boy" and no it is not a fiction book it is a non fiction book. There is a boy that is twelve years of age that starts feeling week and he can't walk or move and after a little bit he is a prisoner in his own body. What I mean by this is that he can't move at all not his lips not even his eyelids nothing, this is not a spoiler because it tells you this on literally the first page. Usually when this occurs the person is brain dead which means they are like a new born baby and know nothing but he was still there he was gust stuck in his mind thinking for over 15 years. The reason that this was my favorite book was because it is one of those stories that really makes you think. The kinds of questions I thought of were, will he ever come back to his normal self? How much has he learned because he can still hear? Will they put him down because the family can't take care of him any more? What will happen if there is a bad fire at the hospital? Will anyone I know throughout my life obtain this?
Some things that I have learned about the world is that sometimes things will be difficult and that you have to go through them or try to find a way to go around them what I mean is that if you have troubles at home or at somewhere else you should deal with them instead of trying to leave them. Do this because if you don't it will bring you down and you won't want to do anything and it will get pressuring and depressing. I also learned about the world that if you just smile even a fake smile after a while it will be real and feel good and make you happy.
The way that my research skills have improved is I no longer just go to google I also go to cnn and world new or aol.com. Another way that my research skills have improved is I don't grab the first piece of evidence that I see just because I think that it is sufficient. I like to look throughout the whole website for a good piece of evidence. Another way that my research skill's have become better is because I go to different websites and stories than most of the other students such as aol.com.

Book: The boy on the wooden box
Prompt: Think of a problem that a character had to face. Write the problem and how the
character solved it or is working to solve it. If you were that character, what
would you do differently?
One of the problems that the main character Leon Leyson encountered in the story was that there was no food for them, they literally had to look around and hopefully find a piece of dried bread. The way that he solved the problem of not having that much food was he would be friends with a lot of people and he would do a lot of chores for his neighbors. If I was that character I honestly don't know how I would get food except for working for different people around that neighborhood. I think that it could be kind of dangerous because what happens if you accidentally stay out to late because the nazi's walk around every night and shoot people that are up past their curfew. So what I would do differently would be probably killing rats and eating them if you can because I don't know if you can get diseases from eating them.
2nd prompt: If you could ask the author any question, what question and why?
If I could ask the author Leyon Lyson any question about the book "The Boy on The Wooden Box" I would ask him what he would have done if he was alone and he did not have is parents or siblings with him. The main reason that I would ask this question would be because a lot of the choices that he made were influenced by his family being with him. An example of this would be when he was going to go to a different camp than his family but then he decided to take the chance to jump in line to the work place were his family was going.
Another reason that I would ask that question would be because if he did not have is family with him would he have just given up or keep trying to live after every day because some of the nazis that were running the camp were really crazy because they would just shoot people for fun. For example one time he thought of giving up after he go whipped with glass but right before he made a decision he thought of his mother father sister and brother.

Picture Poem
A breeze
the old creaky wood held by poles dark and frail
clouds bright and majestic as the sun that will never fail
the dark corral beneath the sea
the exact opposite of a tree
this is where you flee from the cold and chilly
warm inside with some skilly
feel the soothing breeze
blow away a sneeze
The wonderful creek through the wood
the wonderful sound sounds good
in the wind you stood
just because you could
in a little hut
where the wood gives you a cut
when its time to go
there will be no more flow

Global collaboration Reflections
Michael Hoover
global collaboration Reflections
Before beginning our collaboration with India and Sweden my global awareness was very low. I did not know that much except from what I learned from the Aow’s (article of the Week). The way that the collaboration with these other people from Sweden and India has raised my level of global awareness in multiple ways. One of the ways is that I learned that some of the games that they play have a different name. The premiss of that game is the same as here for example Kho Kho is tag in India but here it is called tag.
My perspective on other cultures have changed in a couple of ways. The way that my perspective changed was I learned that They really aren't that different from us they play basket ball and foot ball like us. Another way that my perspective changed was when the other kids in Sweden talked really good english because I thought that they spoke yiddish. The most interesting thing that I have learned so far was that I Sweden they they were socks at school without shoes. This was the most interesting thing that I thought because in america we don't were just plain socks on our feet because we might step on a nail or a rock so that shows that their school is probably really clean.

Poetry Response

Poetry response
poem:
Turtle
Kay Ryan
Who would be a turtle who could help it?
A barely mobile hard roll, a four-oared helmet,
She can ill afford the chances she must take
In rowing toward the grasses that she eats.
Her track is graceless, like dragging
A packing-case places, and almost any slope
Defeats her modest hopes. Even being practical,
She’s often stuck up to the axle on her way
To something edible. With everything optimal,
She skirts the ditch which would convert
Her shell into a serving dish. She lives
Below luck-level, never imagining some lottery
Will change her load of pottery to wings.
Her only levity is patience,
The sport of truly chastened things.
This poem is about a turtle that is being described as small and slow and how it walks around. I think that the reason that the author wrote this was because it informed how the turtle or turtles moved and how they lived and eat. Another reason that the author wrote this poem was because it reminded you of a nice summer day when there was a little turtle grazing around the ground.
The reason that I chose this poem was because it reminded me of when I was little because my dad found a turtle in the alley and even though one of its eyes were gone we still keep him. We also named him baby because he was really small and he liked to eat grass and he chewed really slowly.

Book: Ice Fall
Author: Matthew J. Kirby
Blog By: Michael Hoover
Prompt: If you cold give any advice to the main character what advice would you give her/him and why.
If I could give any piece of advice to the main character which is solvieg, what I would tell them would be that they should pay more attention to the people that are known for disobedience they might find their traitor in the midst. The main reason that I would tell them this would be because there is one old man named ole that looks really suspicious and also acts suspicious, he used to serve a different king before he got captured as a slave and now works for a new king.
Another reason that I would tell them this word of advice is because I noticed that a lot of people acted scared when the Berskers came, the Berskers are men that are skilled warriors and also good allies so they showed up to protect the children for the winter because the father was a war and that means that the traitor was also scared that there were skilled men and hunters in the group of Berskers. The reason that they would be scared is because if one of the Berskers found them out who the traitor was they the traitor would be executed for treason if I was caught for treason I would be scared to death of being killed/executed.
Prompt 2: Describe your least favorite character and explain why. Describe your most
favorite character and explain why.
My least favorite character is Asa. Asa is my least favorite character in the book because she is so set apart from everybody else and she does not socialize she usually just stays in her bedroom. The reason that she does this is because she thinks that it is all of her fault that her father is at war with the enemy but I cant tell why they are at war because you have to read it your self. My favorite character in the book is Harald. Harald is my favorite character in the book because he is fun energetic and perky and thinks that he is a warrior even though he is really young because he is only ten. He likes to act like he is stronger than every one else because he can pick up a war hammer but he cant lift he can only hold it in one place.

Book Talk Blog, Michael Hoover
Book Talk By: Michael Hoover
Book: Ice Fall
Book: Ice Fall
Author: Matthew J. Kirby
The book for this book talk is "Ice Fall" by Matthew Kirby. The genre of this book is mystery and suspense fantasy. The setting of this book is in a huge ravine with only one way out which was through the frozen fjord which was the ocean pass that was frozen for the winter. This story took place a very long time ago when there were dragons, kings, queens, and castles and you had to live off the land such as harvesting crops because there was no Walmart. The main character in this book is solveig. She is the second daughter of the king she might not be beautiful like her sister but she is really smart and resourceful she has light gray hair like a leaf in autumn and a pale face. The struggle that she had to go through was that she had to find what she was which is in total what her part in life would be. She wanted to be a skald, a skald is a worker for the king that tells magnificent stories to him and his men. The challenge about this was that she was of royal blood so she did not know if her father would approve of her being a skald. The reason that she wanted this job because she was good at it and she made every body happy when she told her stories. What I think the mood through out the book was suspicion. I think this because there was a mole that had infiltrated them but they do not know or have any idea who it was all they know was that he, her, or they wanted them dead. I think that the theme of the story was that you can be whatever that you want to be. I think that this was the theme because through out the book the second daughter which was the main character wanted to be a skald so bad but she was royal blood but even though that was in her way she still decided that she wanted to be a skald.

Aow Gallery walk for 1/30
Prompt: what impressions are you left with after out gallery walk? Please reflect with at least two well written paragraphs using evidence from your graphic organizer. For this week we got to choose the article that we learned about, but it had to be school appropriate and had something to do with the world. Out of all of the articles that I read I thought that Emily's was the most intriguing because it was about drones invading peoples privacy. For example there was one man that was in his bedroom and he hears a buzzing so he looks outside his window and there is a drone hovering just outside his window. That's not even the creepy part it turns out that the drone could take videos and pictures and they could be live streamed which mens that somebody can watch through the video camera while it is taking videos from their phone.
Another Article/Aow that I thought was interesting was Sam T's. His Aow talked about how people were trying to convert sunlight into fuel for cars using solar panels on the tops of their cars and he said that they were currently doing tests to figure out what they needed to fix to make it work better. I thought that this was good because with regular cars when people use the fossil fuels they make this toxic gas that flies out into the air and hurts the earths atmosphere. When the car uses solar panels on the top of it there is nothing to burn because it is pretty much electric and this would not release any toxic chemicals into the air.
